All students need a sports physical by the first game/competition to be eligible to play. If you are unsure if your child has a completed sports physical on file, please contact Freedom Middle School to speak to the nurse.

Clubs and Activities

Anime Club

Club Description: The Freedom Middle School Anime Club gives students a means to explore the world of Anime. We seek to understand and appreciate the art of Japanese Animation while providing an entertaining and welcoming environment for our students. Anime club is a great way for our students to come together, share their interests and make new friends. It is also a method of alleviating stress and improving student wellness.  Anime Club provides opportunities for our students to be leaders by teaching the class some of their anime art skills.  We play games, debate favorite anime books and shows and taste foods from the culture.  This group is open to all students of Freedom Middle School from anime enthusiasts to newbies.

Yearbook Club

Club Description: Join the Yearbook Club for a fun and creative experience where you get to capture and design the memories of the school year! In the club, you'll work with a team to photograph school events, design yearbook pages, and help tell the story of our school through pictures and words. Whether you love taking pictures, writing captions, or designing, the Yearbook Club is the perfect place to learn new skills, have fun, and make lasting memories!

Meeting Information:  Bring your iPad and a smile. Dates will be determined and posted in Schoology and the activity calendar. We will have some days when students are scheduled to take photos at games and/or events.

NJHS

Club Description: The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Chapter at Freedom Middle School  is involved in a number of service and leadership activities, charitable fundraising campaigns, and field trips in which students will be working within the school and the surrounding community. (To learn more about the organization, go to http://www.njhs.us.) Students will be inducted for full membership into NJHS using the criteria of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character. Must have at least 3/4 average across all classes and their standard grades, have good behavior (no suspensions and continual detentions will result in removal), and perform acts of service throughout the community.

Battle of the Books

Club Description: Do you love reading? Do you love chatting about books with your friends? Are you willing to get competitive? Join Battle of the Books!

K-Pop Club

Club Description: The FMS K-Pop club is an after school club that meets every week from 3:20-4:15. Like-minded students are able to meet after school in room 318 to listen to school appropriate K-Pop music, discover new groups, learn dances, scrapbook, and try Korean snacks/candy.  This club gives students a fun and creative outlet to learn about Korean pop culture and enjoy their favorite music genre at school with friends.

Chess Club: 

Club Description: Our chess club is all about getting people together to play the game of kings. Whether you are experienced or barely know what the pieces are called, there’s a place for you. We play chess and are able to hang out in a welcoming environment.

Art Club 6th Grade

Club Description: We do many things! Usually there will be one activity/project for each week. Along with options to do crafts, paint, and make bracelets.

Student Council 

Club Description: Student Council is an organization conducted by students and supervised by adults. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community.

Club Sponsor: Ms. Rubich & Ms. Anthony

Meeting Information:  We meet in the Library from 3:20-3:40pm (sometimes until 4:00pm) - Depends on what we are discussing at the meeting 

Meeting Day: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (depends on the week)

Robotics

Club Description: The FMS Robotics team competes throughout the school year in the Chicagoland VEX League.  Students work with their teammates to design, build, test, and code their robots to complete a set challenge and compete against other schools in Saturday tournaments.  This team gives students the opportunity to build coding and STEM skills, build relationships, and collaborate with other students.  

Club Sponsor: Ms. Auld

Meeting Information: Meet in room 307, if meetings are canceled it will be announced in our schoology group and on announcements.  Members of the team are expected to attend as many meetings as possible (let Ms. Auld know when they have a conflict) and come to all four of our Saturday competitions. 

Meeting Day: Every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:20-4:30 until the end of March 

First Meeting Date: Our season is already in progress, but if you would like to join you can talk to Ms. Auld to see if there are openings.

Rock Climbing Club

Club Description: FMS Rock Climbing Club is open to any student who wants to learn how to safely rock climb. Students will learn how to top rope belay as well as learn techniques for improving their climbing skills. We will take a field trip later in the year to a climbing gym in Chicago.

Meeting Information: Wear comfy athletic clothes and gym shoes. You will need to have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian before you can climb.

Meeting Day: Day of the week varies depending on gym availability. Check Schoology group for days.

Beauty and Wellness Club

Club Description: Beauty and Wellness club aims to promote self-care, personal well-being, expression in beauty products through various activities such as hands-on experiences, workshops, and bonding. Activities may include: Skincare routines, Learning/Expression in Makeup and Nails, Affirmations, Journaling and more.

Outdoor Club 

Club Description: Outdoor club is for any student who loves and appreciates being outside.  We have activities learning wilderness survival techniques, appreciation of nature, games, and creative activities.  We are hoping to do some fun events like a bonfire, Earth Day clean up, and some hikes.

After School Choir

Club Description: Choir will further develop your vocal skills, music literacy, and choral performance abilities. You will refine your singing technique through engaging activities and performances, explore diverse musical styles, and collaborate with your peers to create beautiful choral music.

Club Description: Welcome to the Guitar Club, where the sweet sounds of strings and the joy of music come together!
